Treatment, missed work and calls from insurers can pile up while you are still recovering. Nolan handles car accident cases personally and can discuss the crash, the insurance requests and the losses that need attention.

  • Connect an insurer’s specific request or fault argument to the evidence that could answer it.
  • Review possible coverage and documented losses before treating the other driver’s insurer as the only part of the claim.

Give each insurer message a place in the file

Who sent it?

Label the message with the insurer, claim number and person or vehicle it concerns. Keep messages from different insurers separate, even if they discuss the same crash.

What are they asking?

Mark whether it requests information, discusses vehicle repairs or makes an offer. Keep the wording and attachments rather than relying on a phone summary.

What is unclear?

List questions about the request or offer for Nolan, including which part of the claim it addresses. Flag stated response dates promptly; do not guess what an unfamiliar document means.

Your own policy

Coverage you may already be paying for

  • Personal injury protection (PIP), with at least $2,500 in coverage unless rejected in writing by a named insured, for medical bills and lost income
  • PIP that may also cover passengers riding in your car
  • Uninsured and underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage for when the at-fault driver can't cover your losses
  • Medical payments coverage, if your policy includes it
  • Rental and collision coverage for your vehicle
  • Health insurance, which may pay bills now and seek repayment later
  • Short-term disability through your employer

Case preparation

What Nolan checks first

Early preparation focuses on preserving evidence, the crash report, coverage and medical records. Your part stays simple.

  1. 01Review step

    Preserve the evidence

    • Nolan sends preservation letters to the other driver, their insurer and any business that may have video, such as a gas station or apartment complex at the intersection.
    • He also photographs the scene and the vehicles before repairs or salvage.
  2. 02Review step

    Check the crash report

He orders the Texas Peace Officer's Crash Report (CR-3) and checks it for errors in fault, diagrams and witness names.

  3. 03Review step

    Find every policy

He identifies every insurance policy that may apply: the other driver's liability coverage, your PIP and UM/UIM, and any employer or commercial policy if the driver was working.

  4. 04Review step

    Gather medical records

He starts gathering your medical records and bills, so your injuries are documented from the first ER visit forward.

  5. 05Review step

    Get care, save everything

Get medical care, keep your appointments, save every bill and letter, and send Nolan anything you receive from an insurer instead of answering it yourself.

The sequence and timing depend on your case, engagement and the records available.

Many systems record over footage on a short cycle, so the video request often matters most.

Local roads

Dallas roads, Dallas crashes

Many Dallas car cases start on roads you drive every day. The road, the setup around it and who was driving can all shape who may share responsibility.

The responding agency determines where to request the report.

Freeways and intersections

  • Stop-and-go traffic on Central Expressway (US-75) and I-35E Stemmons leads to rear-end crashes.
  • Merges on LBJ Freeway (I-635), Woodall Rodgers and the Dallas North Tollway lead to sideswipes.
  • Northwest Highway, Lemmon Avenue and Buckner Boulevard see left-turn and red-light crashes.

Construction zones

Work zones can bring shifting lanes, narrow shoulders and temporary closures. When a contractor's traffic setup played a part in a crash, that company may share responsibility.

Off-freeway and work drivers

  • Crashes also happen in crowded parking lots, outside a Greenville Avenue restaurant or at a neighborhood stop sign.
  • If the driver was on the job, such as a delivery or service driver, the employer and its commercial policy may join the claim.

Who wrote the report

  • Inside city limits, Dallas Police usually investigate.
  • On some highways it may be the Dallas County Sheriff's Office or Texas DPS, and Richardson, Garland and Irving have their own departments.
  • Nolan knows where to request each report, plus video and 911 records.

What Nolan handles

Car crash cases Nolan takes on

Rear-end collisions

Common in freeway backups and at lights. Fault often looks clear, but insurers still dispute how badly you were hurt.

Intersection and left-turn crashes

These often turn on who had the light or the right of way. Signal timing, video and witnesses can settle that.

Distracted drivers

Texting and app use behind the wheel are hard to prove without moving fast. Phone records may be requested in a lawsuit.

Drunk and impaired drivers

Exemplary damages may be available. A provider may be liable when it served someone who was obviously intoxicated to the point of being a clear danger, and that intoxication proximately caused the harm.

Uninsured and hit-and-run drivers

When the other driver has little or no insurance, your own policy may be the main source of recovery.

City vehicles and DART buses

Government claims need an applicable immunity waiver and can have short notice deadlines and damage caps.

The insurance side

What the other driver's insurer is doing

The other driver's insurer starts building its file right away. None of its moves mean your claim is weak. Your vehicle claim usually moves faster, and Nolan can help get property damage and a rental moving.

Early calls and requests

  • An adjuster may call within a day or two for a recorded statement, a medical authorization and an injury description.
  • Each can be used to argue you weren't badly hurt, an old injury explains your pain, or you were partly at fault.

Common insurer arguments

Insurers point to light property damage and call it a low-impact crash, treat a gap in treatment as proof you recovered, and make early offers before anyone knows what your care will cost.

Fast settlements are risky

  • Neck and back injuries, concussions and herniated discs can feel minor the first day and worse the next week.
  • Once you sign a release, the claim is usually over, even if you later need surgery.

How Nolan answers them

  • Nolan answers those arguments early: records tying injuries to the crash, an explanation for any gap in care, and proof of fault beyond your word against the other driver's.
  • A smaller caseload lets him prepare each case for a Dallas County courtroom.

He is not a settlement mill.

The process

  2. 02

Investigation and evidence work while you focus on medical care

  3. 03

A written demand once your treatment and future needs are clear

  4. 04

Negotiation with the insurer, backed by a trial-ready file

  5. 05

A lawsuit and trial preparation if a fair offer doesn't come

Hit by a city vehicle or a DART bus?

A government-vehicle claim requires an applicable immunity waiver. Formal notice may be due within six months or sooner; reporting a crash is a separate step.

When immunity is waived, Texas city bodily-injury limits are generally $250,000 per person and $500,000 per occurrence. DART generally has lower $100,000 / $300,000 limits. The entity and claim matter, so check both notice and immunity early.

5 reasons to choose Nolan Ryan

Start with the investigating agency

Dallas area crashes may involve different agencies. Nolan identifies the relevant crash report and reviews it alongside your account rather than treating the first summary as complete.

Look beyond the vehicle damage

Medical records, scene evidence and the collision circumstances can answer different questions. Nolan considers those records together rather than relying only on repair estimates.

Identify the policies that may apply

The other driver's coverage may not be the only relevant policy. Nolan reviews your own coverage and any employer or other company connection.

Preserve the evidence that can change

Video, vehicle condition and witness information may become harder to obtain. Nolan requests relevant evidence and considers it alongside the available crash and medical records.

Review the offer against the record

An insurer's early number is only part of the picture. Nolan considers responsibility, documented injuries and applicable coverage before discussing the available options with you.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How common are serious car crashes in Dallas?

Very common. The City of Dallas Vision Zero 2025 report counts 168 fatal crashes and 919 crashes with severe injuries in 2025. Separately, the city’s High Injury Network identifies a small share of streets with a disproportionate share of fatal and severe crashes. See the Dallas Vision Zero data.

What should I do right after a Dallas car crash?

Stop, check on everyone and call 911 if anyone is hurt; Texas law requires drivers in injury crashes to stay, exchange information and give reasonable help. Get medical care. If it is safe, photograph the vehicles and scene and collect witness names. Avoid giving a recorded statement to the other driver's insurer before you get advice.

How do I get my Dallas police crash report?

Buy the Texas Peace Officer's Crash Report (CR-3) online through TxDOT's CRIS system for $6, or $8 for a certified copy. An officer investigating a crash involving injury, death or apparent property damage of $1,000 or more to any one person must submit the CR-3 to TxDOT within 10 days of the crash. Online availability can take longer.

How much insurance does a Texas driver have to carry?

For a Texas auto liability policy used to meet financial-responsibility requirements, minimum limits are $30,000 per injured person, $60,000 per crash and $25,000 for property damage. Serious injuries often cost far more, so your own personal injury protection (PIP) and uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage can matter. Texas auto policies include PIP and UM/UIM unless a named insured rejected them in writing; policy terms and available coverage still matter.

How long do I have to file a Texas car accident lawsuit?

Generally two years from the date of the crash (Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code Section 16.003). If a City of Dallas vehicle was involved, the City Charter requires written notice of the claim within six months, and other government bodies may have different or shorter notice deadlines.

What if the insurance company says I was partly at fault?

Texas uses proportionate responsibility. You can recover if you were 50% or less at fault, with your damages reduced by your share. Above 50%, you recover nothing, which is why insurers often argue fault. Scene photos, video and witness statements help answer that.

What compensation can I recover after a car crash?

Typically past and future medical expenses, lost wages and earning capacity, physical pain, mental anguish, impairment, disfigurement and property damage. Exemplary (punitive) damages are available only in limited cases, such as gross negligence, and are generally capped by Texas law, subject to statutory exceptions.

Where would my Dallas car accident lawsuit be filed?

A case properly venued in Dallas County may be filed in district court or a county court at law at the George L. Allen Sr. Courts Building, 600 Commerce Street. The incident, defendants and applicable venue rules may point to Tarrant, Collin or another county.

What does it cost to talk to a lawyer?
